11-Page Treatment
Within Me is a horror film treatment of my own creation, following small-town waitress Paige Cox, who is haunted by her past when she searches for the cause of her mother’s death. See below for a sneak peak of the film’s story.
Image created with Photoshop.
In 2020, Paige waits tables in a local pub at night in Peoria, Illinois. The pub is old, most likely not renovated since the late 90s and is not overly crowded. There are a few men at the bar that are obnoxiously loud and drunk. Paige does not interact much with her coworkers, who chat with one another occasionally.
As she moves, there is an omnipresent shadow that she seems to be trying to outsmart; by pacing from in the kitchen, back to the bar, and towards the hostess’s area. She is constantly on edge, looking over her shoulder, as if someone is watching her. When she is alone, there are strange occurrences that happen, such as the soap falling without her touching it, or the menus being moved when she turns around. She doesn’t look into the actions, as these are daily occurrences for her. She believes herself to be overly tired and has just forgotten, or that a coworker had done it. Paige is a pessimist and strongly disbelieves in ghosts, believing actions such as these to be caused by coincidence or any other reasonable outcome.
Flashback to 1996, Paige is 6 years old. Her younger brother who is 2 years old, Mitchell, sits in a highchair at a dinner table. She is laughing and trying to feed her little brother food on a spoon as her parents, Flynn and Martin, also at the table laugh at the event. There’s a shadow behind her, but no one seems to notice it.
